Joint Replacement

For the Young & Old Our joints are pivotal to every move we make. Our physicians treat a wide range of joint conditions, and perform partial as well as total joint replacement, or arthroplasty. Joint replacement is recommended for a variety of reasons, including the deterioration of the bone, osteoarthritis, inflammatory or rheumatoid arthritis, deformities, or to correct prior surgeries.

Partial and total joint replacement may be prescribed for the finger, shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, or foot. Minimally invasive (smaller incision) procedures are common. Also, computer navigation may assist with the correct placement of an implant.

Physicians choose from a variety of implants and determine the best application for the patient. Some implants are anatomically designed to be gender-specific, some require a resurfacing of bone, and some penetrate deep inside the bone. More and more young people are opting for joint replacement as an alternative to pain from overuse of the joint. Risk factors include obesity, diabetes, and decreased bone density. After surgery, you will focus on gaining strength and increasing range of motion during rehabilitation.
